EMT School Comparison · Utah

The real cost.
Side by side.

Tuition is only one number. The total you actually pay depends on what's bundled, what's added at checkout, and what's charged separately. Below, we compare Guardian EMT to three other EMT programs in Utah, line by line, dollar by dollar, with no hidden fees.

Side-by-Side Cost Comparison

See how the most popular Guardian package stacks up.

Every Utah EMT program we surveyed lists a base tuition, and then adds anywhere from $300 to $1,700+ at checkout for required equipment, textbooks, certifications, and uniforms. Tuition & Program Access
Tuition & Fees
$1,299
$1,280
$2,763
12-week course access ?
What this covers: Full classroom and skills lab access for the entire 12-week EMT Basic class: lectures, hands-on practical sessions, instructor support, and skills check-offs. All four programs include this in their base tuition.
160+ hours hands-on training ?
Hands-on, not seat time. Guardian's EMT Basic class delivers 160+ hours of hands-on instruction: skills labs, scenario work, and practical assessment, separate from lecture. Programs count and publish their hours differently, so ask any school you are comparing how many of their hours are hands-on.
Real ambulance instruction ?
Guardian-exclusive. Training inside an actual decommissioned ambulance; confined-space patient handling, scoop-and-go scenarios, in-rig vitals and IV setup, partner communication in a moving rig. Most programs train in classroom mock-ups; Guardian uses the real thing.
Clinical ride-along rotations ?
What this covers: Required clinical hours riding with a licensed ambulance service or in an ER setting. All Utah programs coordinate these placements as part of NREMT requirements.
Equipment, Gear & Uniform
Required textbook ?
$125
$125
Watch for this. Most schools list the textbook as a separate line item billed at the start of the program. The market rate for a new EMT-B textbook is $125–$160. Guardian includes it.
Uniform shirt ?
$13
Required attire. Most programs require a branded polo or uniform shirt for clinicals and skills days. Pricing varies by vendor and embroidery.
I.D. badge ?
Required for clinicals. Photo ID badge identifying you as a student EMT during ride-alongs and hospital rotations. Standard across all programs.
EMT gear bundle ?
$40 (BP cuff/stethoscope only)
$40 (BP cuff/stethoscope only)
$40 (BP cuff/stethoscope only)
Not the same bundle. Where the other programs charge around $40, that buys a blood-pressure cuff and a stethoscope. The full kit listed here: stethoscope, trauma shears, pen light, BP cuff and carry, and the rest of the field kit needed for skills assessments and clinicals, is included by Guardian only.
EMS boots & pants ?
$125
$125
$125
Industry standard. Black tactical boots and EMS pants required for clinicals across all Utah programs. None of the surveyed competitors include this in tuition, Guardian does, in the Mother Eagle package.
Certifications & Career Extras
BLS Provider certification ?
$75
$42
Required for employment. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card, a baseline credential for hospital and ambulance-service hiring. Two of the three programs surveyed bill it as a separate certification, at $42 and $75; the third includes it, as Guardian does.
Online testing platform ?
NREMT prep advantage. Access to NREMT-style practice testing platform with thousands of question banks, adaptive learning, and analytics. Programs without this require students to purchase third-party prep ($60–$200) on their own.
On-site training gym — The Forge ?
Guardian-exclusive. The Forge is Guardian's own training gym, in the same building as your classroom, not a discount code for a chain gym across town. Two tracks: CPAT prep for students headed into the fire service, and strength and conditioning for everyone else, because back injuries end EMS careers earlier than anything else does. Included with Soaring Eagle and Mother Eagle; a $300 add-on with Eagle.
Guardian Ops training ?
Guardian-exclusive. Daily 911-style simulation drills, MCI scenarios, tactical EMS, wilderness response, and high-acuity calls. Built by instructors who write NREMT exam questions and serve on active 911 rigs.
Career advancement package ?
Hiring leg-up. Resume review, mock interviews with hiring chiefs from partner ambulance services, and direct introductions to Utah EMS employers. We don't just certify you, we get you hired.
Fingerprinting ?
Required for licensure. Utah Bureau of EMS requires fingerprinting for state licensure. Most students pay this out-of-pocket at a separate facility ($30–$50). Guardian handles it in-house at no extra charge.

About this comparison. All prices and inclusions reflect publicly available information from competitor program websites, program overviews, and standard market costs for goods and equipment. Competitor schools are kept anonymous out of professional respect. We'd rather you decide based on what's in the package than what's on the sign. Prospective students are encouraged to verify current pricing directly with each program before enrolling. Pricing data current as of 2026; Guardian EMT pricing is fixed per published rates on our pricing page.
Buyer's Guide

How to compare EMT schools in Utah (without getting blindsided).

The "cheapest" EMT program on the brochure is almost never the cheapest program at the end. Here are the three categories every prospective student should evaluate before signing an enrollment agreement.

Step 01

Read past the tuition number.

Base tuition only covers classroom instruction and skills lab access. Ask for the school's full required-purchase list: textbook, uniform, boots, gear bundle, ID badge, and any required practice-platform subscriptions. Add those costs to the tuition figure. That number is your actual entry price.

Step 02

Check the certifications.

Most ambulance services and hospitals will not hire you with just an EMT card. They expect BLS Provider at minimum, and AEMTs are typically expected to hold ACLS and PALS. If your school doesn't include these, you'll pay $40–$275 per certification out-of-pocket before you can apply for a job.

Step 03

Account for external fees.

No Utah EMT program includes the Utah State Licensing Fee (paid to the Utah Bureau of EMS) or the NREMT Exam Fee (paid to the National Registry) in tuition. These are always paid separately, are required for licensure, and apply regardless of which school you choose. Budget for them on top of your total program cost.

Why we don't name the other schools

Because the comparison isn't about them. It's about what you're paying for.

Every Utah EMT program runs an honest curriculum and produces capable EMTs, that's the floor. The differences are in what's bundled into the price and how much real-world exposure you get before you graduate. We've published Guardian's full package transparently. If a competitor's price beats ours after you add up every required line item, by all means, pick the cheaper school. We just want you to compare full carts, not sticker prices.

⚠ Paid Separately By Every Utah EMT Student

External fees not included by any Utah program.

These two fees are required for state licensure and national certification regardless of which school you attend. They are paid directly to the issuing agency and are not part of any EMT program tuition in Utah.

External Fee 01

Utah State Licensing Fee

Paid directly to the Utah Bureau of EMS & Preparedness once you complete your program. Required to work as a licensed EMT or AEMT anywhere in Utah. Current amount is set by the state, verify on the Utah BEMS website at the time of application.

External Fee 02

NREMT Exam Fee

Paid directly to the National Registry of EMTs when you schedule your certification exam. Required for both EMT-B and AEMT national certification, which is in turn required for Utah state licensure. Current amount is set by the NREMT and updated periodically.
